Safe Streets 101 Training

 July - December 2005

On every fourth Tuesday of the month, Safe Streets Campaign conducts Block Leader training for members of the community who want to start up or strengthen a Block Watch, Neighborhood Watch or Business Watch group in their neighborhood.  Community members acquire tools and skills for setting up meetings, recruiting members for their group, setting agendas, and developing goals and work plans.  Potential and current block leaders learn techniques for identifying and documenting problems, working together with their neighbors, and also with representatives of community services like law enforcement, code enforcement and social services.  They learn how to keep their groups motivated and focused on taking action to change undesirable conditions in their neighborhoods, and how to follow up on those actions.  Following their attendance at this basic Block Leader training, group leaders are connected with other group leaders in nearby areas through newsletters and Block Leader Networking Meetings which take place quarterly and which provide group leaders the opportunity to provide support to each other and access new or unknown resources to help them with their efforts.
